Women's March

I am so honored and proud to be part of the Women's March last weekend. The day before, I watched Trump's Inauguration and then stood amongst thousands of people in front of the Capitol the following day, showing each other that we are not alone.

The day wasn't for one thing in particular because it grew to encompass a myriad of different issues. What I loved was that you don't have to be personally affected to support someone in a weaker position. In one place, you can see the diversity, cohesion and understanding that America could be. Even though there was a chance that a large rally like this could attract violence and danger, the risk was worth taking to stand bedside your brave, fighting neighbor who would experience racism, sexism, or bullying on a daily basis. The saying is simple: "I'm with her".

Perhaps the day was ultimately for hope, for planting the seeds so the future could bear fruit. At the rally, I saw lot of families bringing their kids. The kids probably won't realize the significance right now, but they'll remember when their parents took them to stand for something, to see people who look different from them but rallying for a common cause. They'll remember what it looks like for strangers respecting each other as they peacefully march on the streets. They'll understand that these strangers are not just fighting for their own personal gains, but for the fair treatment of everybody.

Maybe in those kids is why the Women's March is so important; because in those kids we still have hope.
