Hard Edges

I had the privilege to do an ad hoc photoshoot with my photographer friend. Although I'm the furthest thing from being able to model in front of the camera, he was able to capture my personality and put it in a little square frame.

He specializes in natural lighting and making things pretty; check him out at Octavio Valencia Photography in Sacramento, CA.

There's probably no better way to highlight how small, organic, and human you are than by standing in front of a large, metallic wall comprised of sharp lines in perfect, equal measures. We have no even edges, but there's beauty in that too.

"one more thing" by b.j. novak

B.J. Novak wrote a book! And here is the trailer for it. I love Mindy Kaling in this and how they pretend to be "pretentious" now that they both have books out. It's a collection of short stories.

Would you read it?

{ le week-end / valentine's }

Valentine's Day is around the corner and everyone is in a loving spirit. Whether you're in a new relationship or you've been married for years, Le Week-End is a new movie about appreciating your other half. This couple brought themselves in a new, romantic environment of Paris and will surely remind them of why they are together.

And for V-Day, share these wonderful, cute/awkward cards made by Emily McDowell:

{ make-up inspired by art }

From Into the Gloss, Violette gives us a special treat inspired by paintings in the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Her technique for contouring and highlighting specific areas on the face matches perfectly with those beautiful Renaissance paintings, with their perfect, matte skin.

{ i want my hat back }

Don’t you just love the simplicity of picture books? This one is about a bear looking for his misplaced hat. His journey to find the hat is told all in dialogue with other animals. Some are honest, some are not. And he just wants his hat back.

What I love about this book are the illustrations by Jon Klassen (he also worked on Coraline!).

{ strandbeest }

Theo Jensen is an artist, but he’s more than that.  He builds life forms that are able to walk on their own using the wind.  They walk on beaches and they are tough enough to survive obstacles in nature.

According to Jensen’s website, he’s hoping that one day, they will be able to live on their own, in herds, on beaches.

{ kanna }

There’s nothing sweeter than childhood innocence.  My little cousins came over yesterday to celebrate my mom’s birthday and it was so cute to see them so excited just to sing ‘happy birthday’ and eat their own cupcakes.  I wish they could stay young forever but they have to grow-up.  We can only hope their futures are just as sweet.

Toyokazu, a Japanese photographer got the right idea of capturing her daughter showing off her personality.  The photos are so adorable and full of character, you can almost feel like you’re getting to know her.

No, take us all Disneyland.
